Maddie (Jennifer Lawrence) is a down-on-her-luck Uber driver who is facing eviction from her childhood home. Desperate for money, she answers a Craigslist ad from a wealthy couple who are looking for someone to “date” their 19-year-old son, Percy.
Percy (Brian Tyree Henry) is an introverted and awkward teenager who has never had a girlfriend. His parents are worried that he will never learn how to socialize or have a normal life if he doesn’t get some experience before he goes off to college.
Maddie agrees to the job, but she quickly realizes that it is not going to be easy. Percy is shy and awkward, and he doesn’t know how to talk to girls. Maddie has to teach him everything from how to flirt to how to kiss.
As Maddie and Percy spend more time together, they start to develop a friendship. Maddie begins to see Percy for who he really is, and she realizes that he is not as awkward or shy as she thought he was. Percy starts to come out of his shell, and he begins to learn how to socialize.
By the end of the summer, Maddie and Percy have both changed. Maddie has found a new purpose in life, and Percy has finally learned how to live. They say goodbye, but they both know that they will never forget each other.
