AMC to Play Mountainfilm Adventure Shorts from Telluride
AMC hid a gem in this week’s AMC Stubs Insider newsletter: Select AMC theaters will be showing a special collection of short films that played at the Mountainfilm Festival earlier this year. Yea!
About the Film
Mountainfilm Adventure Shorts is a curation of short films shown at the 2024 Mountainfilm Festival in Telluride, Colorado. While the festival is geared more toward filmmakers, this film was created to be “fan first” and appeal to general moviegoing audiences.
The festival worked together with REI Co-op, a retailer of outdoor and adventure sport equipment and supplies. This is their first collaboration, and both are excited to bring outdoor films to “inspire people to get out and experience…what the outdoors can offer,” says Joe Crosby of REI.
That’s about all we know right now about the film. We’ll be getting in the car Saturday to make the drive to Jacksonville to see it, and following that we’ll post more details. If you’re a fan of adventure sports, scroll down below to how you can find out where Mountainfilm Adventure Shorts is playing near you.
About Mountainfilm
Since 1979, Mountainfilm has been showcasing full-length and short documentary films that “celebrate adventure, activism, social justice, environment, and indomitable spirit.” That’s quite a mouthful, and a big goal, and filmmakers are up to the task.
Mountainfilm brings together a sizable lineup of films. At the 2024 event, audiences had many options — 98 films were screened. Winners of the 2024 include Sugarcane, The Last Observers, and Between the Mountain and the Sky, along with Porcelain War (which is making its way around the festival circuit). (More info on the winning films here.)
Mountainfilm is held every Memorial Day weekend in Telluride, the tiny Old West city known for its own big film festival. The event brings together artists who are and want to be filmmakers, from National Geographic photographers or independent artists, authors, and outdoor sportsman.
“We don’t do films to make films, we do films to try to change the world,” says Louie Psihoyos, an Oscar-winning director, in the event’s promo video.
More info on the festival can be found on its official website, mountainfilm.org.
Finding Locations
AMC made it challenging to find out where this series of short films is playing. Links from the weekly newsletter go straight to the Showtimes section of the AMC website, where you need to choose a location and hope it’s playing there.
Instead of messing with that chaos, go to the film’s main page on the AMC website and scroll to the bottom. The list of theaters is broken down by state. In Florida, the film is playing in Orlando, Jacksonville, Ft. Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, Sarasota, Tallahassee, and Tampa.
