The Story
Hal (Christopher Abbott) is the heir to a vast hotel empire. He is also a deeply troubled man, haunted by a dark past and a crippling fear of failure. In an effort to control his anxiety, Hal has been seeing a dominatrix named Rebecca (Margaret Qualley) for several years. Their sessions are intense and often violent, but they provide Hal with a sense of release and catharsis.
One day, Hal decides to end his relationship with Rebecca. He believes that he is no longer in need of her services, and he is ready to face his demons on his own. However, Rebecca is not so easily let go. She is determined to keep Hal under her control, and she will stop at nothing to get what she wants.
As Hal and Rebecca’s relationship spirals out of control, they are both forced to confront their deepest fears and desires. In the end, only one of them will emerge victorious.
Sanctuary is a dark and twisted love story that explores the power dynamics between a dominatrix and her client. It is a film that will stay with you long after you have seen it.
