Screen Actors Guild 2024 Nominations
The Screen Actors Guild, better known as SAG, have announced their 2024 list of “outstanding” performances — and as of the annual gala held on February 24, the winners have been announced.
You’re probably thinking, isn’t SAG the group that vote on the Oscars? Nope! The SAG Awards are voted on by the roughly 160,000 members of the actors’ union, SAG-AFTRA, making it a true “by actors, for actors” celebration. This differs from the Oscars, where a broader group of film professionals, including directors, writers, and others, cast their votes.
So how are the SAG Awards different? These awards focus solely on recognizing outstanding acting performances in film and television, even including a special award for stunt ensembles. In contrast, the Academy Awards encompass a wider range of filmmaking achievements than just acting, including directing, sound design and visual effects. And, there are even two awards given out specifically for stunts.
While the award shows differ in their approach, the SAG Awards, due to the high number of actors in both organizations, often serve as a strong indicator of who will win acting awards at the Oscars.
