I Love You More (2024)
The Story
In “I Love You More”, director Erblin Nushi delves into the complexities of teenage love and societal pressures, exploring themes of self-discovery, cultural acceptance, and the courage to pursue genuine connection. The film centers around Ben, a closeted Kosovar teenager living in a conservative society.
Fuelled by years of online chats and a deep emotional connection, Ben decides to finally meet Leo, a boy he loves from Germany. This seemingly simple decision unfolds into a web of challenges, as Ben navigates societal expectations, family obligations, and the fear of potential rejection. The film doesn’t shy away from showcasing the stark contrast between Ben’s yearning for love and the limitations imposed by his environment. It delves into Ben’s internal struggle as he balances his burgeoning identity with the pressure to conform to cultural norms.
Through Ben’s journey, “I Love You More” offers a nuanced commentary on the importance of self-acceptance, highlighting the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in communities where traditional values hold sway. It raises questions about the lengths we go to for love, the sacrifices we make, and the courage it takes to fight for what truly matters. While a coming-of-age story on its surface, the film offers a deeper exploration of societal acceptance, love in its various forms, and the pursuit of individual happiness in the face of adversity.
